Founder & Chief Executive Officer, ABACUS Insights

Dr. Minalkumar Patel is a serial physician entrepreneur. In 2017, he founded ABACUS Insights to help payers unlock the value of their data across multiple dimensions of the payer value chain. The Company does this by leveraging advanced technologies that have served other industries well and marrying them with deep domain expertise in the payer industry.

Prior to founding ABACUS, Dr. Patel held senior roles at payor organizations, most recently serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

Prior, he co-founded Vayu Technologies, a spin out telecommunications platform developed by Bell Labs and UMPC. Dr. Patel left the Company after he sold it to Seniorlink, backed by North Bridge Venture Partners.

In 2006, he founded Care Management International, a pioneer in leveraging offshore clinical talent to support payer clinical functions. He served as the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer. The Company was successfully sold to iHealth Technologies (now Cotiviti), where he served as Executive Vice President. Previously, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Horizon Healthcare Insurance Company of New York. He also served as an associate with McKinsey and Company.

Dr. Patel received an MD and BA from Boston University and completed his Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and then joined the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the medical staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
