Dr. Robert Bessler founded Sound Physicians in 2001. As Sound’s Chief Executive Officer, he provides strategic vision and leadership to the organization. From a start-up to a thriving organization, Dr. Bessler’s vision for Sound Physicians is to be the leader at improving quality and reducing the cost of healthcare for patients in communities across the United States. He ensures the organization seamlessly partners with hospitals, community clinicians, and payers to improve outcomes throughout 90-day acute care episodes, which account for 50% of total Medicare spending and serve as the single most important, actionable lever for succeeding under value-based care. Sound Physicians now cares for more than two million patients annually through emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care, population health, telemedicine, and physician advisory services.

As a physician leader, Dr. Bessler is dedicated to creating a better career opportunity for clinicians while advancing quality and satisfaction outcomes for patients. This begins with arming clinicians with the tools, resources, and education required to make a measurable difference in outcomes. From the outset, he invested in the development of clinicians to ensure physicians and advanced practice providers are prepared to become effective leaders in their practice.

Dr. Bessler led the development of Sound Connect, a technology platform for physicians and advanced practice providers that incorporates practice management tools, workflows, and an efficient way of collecting charge capture and performance data. Over more than a decade, Sound Physicians has continued to evolve this physician-designed technology, introducing new mobile and desktop applications with advanced clinical workflow, communication, and practice management tools to optimize efficiency and benchmark performance.

He currently serves as Chairman of the board of Sound Physicians and as a member of the board of Lifestance Health and Broadjump. Former healthcare services boards include Dupage Medical Group and Accelecare.

Dr. Bessler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Tufts University and received his medical degree and graduated with honors from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. He completed an emergency medicine residency at The Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth Medical Center. Dr. Bessler is board certified in emergency medicine.
